If Yunni buying a rifle even is an option, I do have a question, too: How does that interstellar trade work in the first place? Yunni essentially escaped from an isolated single-species population with no preparation for interstellar travel. Automated translators pre-loaded with even the rarest languages can explain the communication issues away, but why would he be carrying a fully convertible currency?
Well, we did see the shopkeeper on the space station in chapter 2 say that he’d never refuse Aurik currency. Obviously, some shops will accept their money. Space stations and marketplaces with a wide variety of clientele will allow payments to be made in most known currencies. Though Yunni would probably be out of luck in other single-species areas (the Vespin homeworld, for example).
